About Korea Trends Explained

Korea Trends Explained explains what’s happening in Korea—and why it matters.

Korea moves fast. A drama scene suddenly goes viral. A Korean phrase starts appearing everywhere. A neighborhood, food, beauty trend, song or cultural moment catches international attention—but the story behind it is often harder to find.

That is where Korea Trends Explained comes in.

We go beyond headlines and viral clips to explain the Korean context behind the trends people are talking about.

Our focus includes Korean entertainment, culture, food, places, lifestyle trends and other topics attracting attention both inside and outside Korea.

Rather than simply repeating the news, we try to answer the questions international readers often have next:

Why is this suddenly popular? What does it mean in Korea? Is what I’m seeing online actually normal in Korea? What important context am I missing?

Our goal is simple: to help international readers understand not just what is trending in Korea, but the Korea behind the trend.

Founder & Editor

Cheolho Lee is the founder and editor of Korea Trends Explained. He is based in South Korea.

He studied Business Administration at Yonsei University and earned an MBA from Waseda University in Japan. His career includes about a decade of export work at LG Electronics, later executive roles at foreign-affiliated and mid-sized companies, and experience running an independent business before retirement.

That background does not mean this site claims backstage access to the Korean entertainment industry. Its value is different: long experience inside Korean society, cross-border business experience, and a habit of separating what is documented from what is interpretation.

Our Approach

We aim to distinguish reported fact, Korean context and editorial interpretation.

Where possible, factual claims are checked against primary material such as company statements, official schedules, court or agency information, original interviews, platform data or the Korean source behind an international report.

We do not invent anonymous insiders, personal encounters or first-hand access we do not have. Online reactions are not treated as proof of what all Koreans think.

Trends can change quickly, so some information may evolve after publication. Important articles may be updated when meaningful new information becomes available.
