SEVENTEEN’s 2025 CARAT LAND shows how far the modern K-pop fan meeting has grown.

Updated: September 7, 2026

If you are new to K-pop, the phrase fan meeting may sound like a small meet-and-greet. Maybe an idol, a table and a few lucky fans.

Then you discover that RIIZE’s 2026 third-anniversary fan meeting is being held for two days at INSPIRE ARENA, with KRW 121,000 tickets and global online streaming.

SEVENTEEN’s 2025 CARAT LAND was held at the main stadium of Incheon Munhak Stadium. That is not a tiny meet-and-greet.

So what makes a fan meeting different from a concert?

Quick Answer

A concert puts music and performance at the center. A fan meeting puts the relationship between the artist and fans at the center.

Fan meetings can still include songs, choreography and large stages. The difference is the larger role of talk, games, fan questions, memories and personality.

When Did Korean Fan Meetings Become a Real Thing?

There is no single clean date that can be called “the first Korean fan meeting.” The modern format grew through several stages.

Late 1990s: organized idol fandom becomes huge

In 1997, the launch event for H.O.T.’s official fan club drew around 15,000 fans to Seoul’s Olympic Gymnastics Arena.

That was not identical to today’s ticketed fan meeting. But the basic idea was already there: an official fandom gathering around one artist in a major venue.

Mid-2000s: fan meetings become part of the Korean Wave

Rain’s 2005 fan meeting attracted more than 1,000 Asian fans. His 2007 event was planned for more than 3,000 fans from 12 countries.

Korean actors were becoming global fan objects too. The success of Winter Sonata turned Bae Yong-joon into a phenomenon in Japan, where thousands of fans came just to see him arrive.

Late 2000s and 2010s: the format becomes familiar

By 2009, a TVXQ fan meeting could sell out in minutes and include Q&A, fan-wish segments and songs.

The modern formula was becoming easy to recognize: talk + games + special performances + direct fan interaction.

Simple timeline:

Late 1990s — official fandom culture grows
Mid-2000s — Korean Wave takes fan meetings abroad
2010s — fan meetings become a standard event format
2020s — memberships, merchandise, streaming and tours professionalize the format

Are Fan Meetings Now a Normal Part of Korean Entertainment?

Yes—but not every celebrity has to hold one. Fan meetings have become a normal standalone event format for major idols and actors.

They can have fan-club presales, general ticket sales, official merchandise, light-stick control, online streaming and international tour dates.

TWS held its first Seoul fan meeting for three days in 2025 with online live streaming. The group returned with a second three-day fan meeting in 2026.

That repeatability matters. A fan meeting is no longer just a one-time “thank-you event.”

Fan Sign vs Fan Meeting vs Concert

Feature Fan Sign Fan Meeting Concert
Main purpose Brief personal contact Relationship, personality and interaction Music and performance
Fan contact Closest to one-on-one Mostly artist-to-whole-audience interaction Relatively limited
Typical content Autograph + short conversation Talk, games, fan questions, special stages Long setlist and production stages
Music share Low Medium and highly variable Highest
Entry model Often tied to album-purchase entry Ticket sale, often with fan-club presale Ticket sale, often with fan-club presale
Best choice if... You want a brief personal exchange You care about the members as people You want the most music and performance

Korea JoongAng Daily describes fan meetings as more interactive and relaxed, with games, activities and special performances, while concerts focus primarily on the artist’s songs.

What Actually Happens at a K-Pop Fan Meeting?

There is no universal formula. But several ingredients appear again and again.

Talk sessions, quizzes, team games, fan questions, old photos, fan messages, cover stages, unit performances and a smaller selection of group songs are common.

TWS’s official release of its first fan meeting includes ten performances, member introductions, a treasure hunt with fans and behind-the-scenes material.

That tells us something important: a fan meeting is not a music-free event—it is an event that cannot be explained by music alone.

SEVENTEEN in CARAT LAND — 2025 Recap

What it shows: a fan meeting operating at stadium scale.
Why it matters: it immediately breaks the idea that “fan meeting” means a tiny room.
Watch for: the balance between performance, comedy, group chemistry and fandom rituals.

Why Are There So Many Games?

It can look strange the first time. Thousands of people buy tickets, then famous idols come onstage and play silly games.

But the “product” of a fan meeting is not only polished performance. It is also personality and group chemistry.

At a concert, a perfect three-minute stage can be the highlight. At a fan meeting, thirty seconds of members laughing uncontrollably after a failed game can be more memorable.

Reality Gap:

The most valuable moment at a fan meeting does not have to be the most spectacular performance.

K-Pop Idol Fan Meeting vs Actor Fan Meeting

Feature K-Pop Idol / Group Actor
Main focus Members + music + fandom relationship One actor + career + dramas/films + fans
Music Usually a significant part May include songs, but rarely the whole point
Talk topics Members, comeback memories, fandom stories Recent roles, behind-the-scenes stories, career memories
Games Strong group chemistry and missions Q&A and fan-participation games are common
Fandom system Light sticks, official membership, merch Fan cafés, memberships and merch
Tour logic Can follow comeback or anniversary cycles Often follows strong overseas interest in a drama or actor

The line is not perfect. Actor-singers such as Lee Junho, or actors who prepare musical stages, can blend the two formats.

Park Bo-gum’s 2025 Seoul fan meeting was a fully ticketed 150-minute event at Jangchung Arena, with official fan-café presales.

Actor Fan Meeting Example — Park Bo-gum

His 2025 BE WITH YOU fan meeting tour is a useful contrast: one actor’s stories, emotions and connection with fans become the center of the show.

A Fan Meeting Does Not Have to Be Small

This is one of the easiest things for international fans to misunderstand. “Intimate” does not necessarily mean “small venue.”

SEVENTEEN held a fan meeting at a stadium. RIIZE uses INSPIRE ARENA.

What makes a fan meeting feel closer is usually the amount of interaction—not the number of seats.

Then What Is a Fan-Con?

K-pop created a useful middle category: fan-con = fan meeting + concert.

It keeps more talk, games and interaction than a normal concert, but usually gives music a larger role than a standard fan meeting.

Fan Sign → personal contact

Fan Meeting → relationship

Fan-Con → relationship + music

Concert → music

Real events can sit anywhere between those labels. The title of the event is a useful clue, not a mathematical rule.

Why Are So Many Fan Meetings Built Around Anniversaries?

A fan meeting often celebrates time shared with a fandom. RIIZE’s 2026 event marks its third anniversary, while NCT DREAM’s party marks ten years.

That is why old photos, memories, fan letters and member quizzes fit naturally into the format.

A concert often says: “Here is our new music.”

A fan meeting can say: “Look how long we have been here together.”

Fan Meetings Are Now Global Products

TWS streamed its first fan meeting online in 2025. RIIZE’s 2026 fan meeting sells online access through Weverse and Beyond LIVE.

Korean actors such as Kim Seon-ho, Byeon Woo-seok and Gong Yoo also tour multiple Asian cities with fan meetings.

The modern Korean fan meeting can now combine:

Show + Fan Club + Tickets + Merchandise + Streaming + International Tour
Another K-Pop Fan Meeting

TWS — First Fan Meeting Announcement

What it shows: a young K-pop group turning its first fan meeting into a full three-day event.
Why it matters: it shows how quickly fan meetings can become part of a group’s normal activity cycle.
Watch for: the event branding itself—the fan meeting is treated as its own era, not as a side event.

Korea Dessert

Leave the Arena and Walk Through Seochon

What it shows: iGoBart explores Seochon with American linguist and urbanist Robert Fouser.
Why watch: after stadiums, ticketing and fandom systems, this brings the page back to a slower Seoul of hanok, cafés and neighborhood streets.
Watch for: how different everyday Korea feels from the highly organized entertainment world built around a fan meeting.

The Bottom Line

A K-pop fan meeting is not simply a smaller concert or a bigger fan sign. It has a different center of gravity.

Concerts are built around music. Fan meetings are built around the artist-fan relationship.

Actor fan meetings shift the balance again, putting more attention on roles, stories and the actor’s career.

If you are choosing your first Korean fan event, the decision can be simple:

Want the most songs and stages? → Concert

Want personality, interaction and stories? → Fan Meeting

Want a brief personal exchange? → Fan Sign

Want both interaction and more music? → Fan-Con

Fan meetings have lasted because fans rarely stay interested in music alone.

Over time, they become interested in the people, memories and relationship around the music. The fan meeting turns that relationship into a show.
